@drsermedmezher: POV: You Get a Sharp Chest Pain. Sources- PMID 39045476 jhughsy on TT One of the primary drivers of this condition is thought to be the rapid physiological changes associated with adolescent growth spurts. During these periods of fast growth, the nerves in the chest wall or the pleura (the lining of the lungs) can become momentarily irritated or compressed by the shifting musculoskeletal structure. This irritation triggers a localized spasm in the intercostal muscles, creating a sharp pain that often forces the person to take shallow breaths until the sensation passes. Beyond physical growth, stress and poor posture are significant behavioral triggers. PCS frequently occurs when a person is slumping or "hunching" over a desk, which can put mechanical pressure on the parietal pleura. When a sudden deep breath is taken from this compressed position, it can "catch" the sensitive nerve endings. Emotional stress or anxiety can also play a role, as these states often lead to increased muscle tension and altered breathing patterns, making the chest wall more susceptible to these brief, harmless spasms. Despite the intensity of the pain, it usually lasts only seconds to a few minutes and does not involve the heart or lungs themselves, distinguishing it from more serious cardiac events. #heart #chestpain #teenagers

I occasionally had this happen as a teen. The worst was during band practice 😭 Literally could not play until it relaxed. Haven't had it happen since I was that age. So weird.

Guys had this on and off my whole life. I've even seen doctors. I've found out a way to stop it when it starts (thanks tiktok). It's like a pinched nerve. Sit straigh, put your hands behind your head, stretch up and out to expand your ribcage and then go down like folding in on yourself. repeat. It's hard to explain but works every single time. try to search for demonstration
