@ppe_clips: Alex O’Connor debates and discusses with Italian Bach and Arthur TV why he has CHANGED HIS MIND to think that Materialism is false?!? #bachandarthur #philosophy #materialism #debate #usa
the fall off of alex is tough, this is just a simple argument from incredulity.

This is assuming that consciousness is actually a “thing” and it’s not just an evolved system for processing information

Consciousness absolutely can be created with "bunch of atoms"

from a scientific and logical viewpoint, he is spot on

We dont know materialism is a fact but no other explanation is nearly as sensible

Sad Alex simply asserts consciousness cant come from inert material.

bro denied that conciousness emerges from physical matter, then proceedes to demonstrate how conciousness emerges from atoms

‘Science doesnt explain what anything is only how it acts’ is my least favourite of Alex’s takes, of course it can’t and neither can philosophy that’s just how language works

It’s obvious that he didn’t studied particle physics and quantum mechanics, because he yet knows the classic explanations

“Science can’t explain what stuff is, only how it acts” what? Using his example, an electron is a fundamental particle. Thats what it is. A particle that can’t be broken down anymore. An electron is a fundamental particle, made of matter, with a negative charge, a fixed mass, a spin, and zero volume. By describing its properties we are describing what it is. Or his other example, what is mass. Mass is the effect of the Higgs Field interacting with matter. Thats not what it does, thats what it fundamentally is. I don’t get it, is he trying to play some word game im missing?

Vinny :
How is consciousness fundamentally different from memory? Both seem to be different neural processes using the same physical machinery. If memory can emerge from physical material, why is consciousness treated as impossible to explain that way? If we question memory the same way we question consciousness, we run into the same problem

Pretty much like saying sound is a different kind of thing to a computer so there's no way putting a computer together could produce sound. Low point for Alex

if you can't explain what mass even is then how you can definitely say consciousness doesn't emerge from mass?

Well I mean consciousness doesn’t work without your brain, if you physically alter someone’s brain their consciousness will also alter in many ways so it can’t be separated from the material world 🤔.
