If you like soapstone and want more durability look at mist black granite honed or leathered! You can get marbles that are harder but still white and look similar enough to bianco rhino. Look at shadow storms or bianco Tesoro (they may all be named different things depending where you look)

My parents did honed granite (basically the non-shinny side) because the wanted the look of soapstone but it’s too soft and so pricey. It looks so good and has worked beautifully.

Our local countertop place doesn’t even carry marble in stock anymore because of how often it gets returned or customers are not happy with it

Ive got soapstone countertops in a dark grey. They do scuff a bit but for me its almost a character mark. Always such a tough call because of how permanent (for the most part) selections cab be. Have fun with your choices.

As an interior designer. Please don’t use quartz. Man made materials are not as durable as advertised and they don’t make your home unique since everyone is using them. If you want to save money on bathrooms, use natural stone remnants. Please use marble or soapstone or quartzite in the kitchen. 🥰

Off topic, but have you ever talked about how you came up with your new last name after you got married? Just curious if there is a story 🥰

I might’ve missed you talking about this but if you’re buying the home be very careful of what you purchase / finance during your escrow period! Your credit gets pulled again before closing and if there’s major changes you may not qualify for the loan anymore!!! I tell my clients to hold of on anything until closing or ask their lender first!!!

I’m an interior designer(also a golfer). I would recommend quartz in a kitchen it’s the most durable material. You can do soapstone on living room area, coffee bar, or any other smaller areas as an accent. Also try to find multiple areas to share a slab because you will be paying for the whole slab anyway

We got soapstone and it etches easily with acid foods, but you can also sand it out-but I’d suggest sanding like years into it because you can see the slight grain variations

My parents have soap stone and I’m considering it for my own home too! It does scratch easily but it becomes part of the look! I love soap stone for a kitchen and being able to set hot objects right on the counter is amazing!

Both marble and soapstone patina in their own ways. Marble can stain easier but soapstone is extremely soft. I ultimately did marble but i love soapstone
