The use of slowed progress is to gain time. Spending that time to gain height allows one to update the road map so that progress may continue. It is inevitable that one must spend time on scouting or you risk overplaying your hand and operating blindly. Sometimes leaps of faith are required, operating without senses, and it pays off tremendously.
