My mom had dementia and she couldn’t stay around people more than 15 minutes. And noise really triggered her.

Unfortunately, I know how that feels (I have a different disease, CRPS). But when the illness is neurological, it means we lose so much of ourselves. ❤️😢

I've been following you for a while now and I first of all want to say what a lovely, interesting, funny, vulnerable human being you are. I've enjoyed getting to know you through your videos, and I hope that you can plateau and stay long past the June date. I think for me my non-negotiables would be if I could no longer remember and interact with my loved ones. I would never want to get to that point, but if I still knew who everyone was and still could express love, hold hands, talk with and listen to my daughter and grandson and son-in-law, and a few choice friends, I would want to stay. but when I could no longer have the awareness that you have now and couldn't be a light in my family's life, I think that would weigh in. I think of you daily and pray for you and send Loving Thoughts your way. you are beautiful human being.

If I have to go into a care home that is it. No way will I allow a corporation to take all the $$ i have earned over my lifetime. I want my children to have what little I have saved.

Making PCA Visible :
Gina here. We met in an Early onset support group a few months back. (FYI- created this account recently to bring awareness) My husband has EOD. Used to be the most social person. not anxious. He gets just loke you are describing when we go almost anywhere. The sensory overload is overwhelming, exhausting, but he gets super anxious now. Anxious about all of the above. Anxious about the confusion he is experiencing, anxious he might get lost, or lose me, or see someone he knows and not remember them or appear 'off'. Or having anyone to the house make him anxious and exhausted too!! This was hard for him to come terms with at 1st bc it is NOT like him at all. It's so sad and scary to watch. Hugs to you Rebecca.

Noise cancelling headphones might make outings more manageable. I have 2 autistic sons, both have sound sensitivities, and both have used them at different points in their lives every time they left the house. They work better than ear plugs, and lots of people use them now so it’s also a visual way for others to recognize you may not be up for conversations.

I’m currently going through peri menopause and what you described is what I’m going through as well . Not to compare but it’s so similar . I feel like a shell of the person I was . I can only imagine what you’re going through . As for what my limits would be , I would hope that I would just know when it’s time . I think we all have survival instincts and when the instinct for survival diminishes and we find ourselves giving into it , I think that would be my time . Whatever that looks like . I used to be scared to die and over the last couple years , that fear has diminished . I’m no longer afraid .

I do not have Alzheimer’s, but I have social anxiety that has just developed at the age of 53. And I hate being out around people and it makes me sad so that part I do understand.

If wearing noise cancelling headphones allows you to go out and enjoy yourself with out being overwhelmed, it’s totally worth it. I have some and don’t use them often but they make such a difference when I’m overwhelmed. I hope you find what works for you, and you can feel a bit more you again 🥰

awww becs I just want to hug you. it's nice that your hairdresser was so caring and made sure you were comfortable. I know I'll never understand and I will never know how shit it is to lose parts of normal life but even if it means wearing headphones to drown out noise that's ok xx

If I remember correctly, you worked with patients with dimentia prior to your diagnosis? The fear and anxiety about everything must be so overwhelming. Accomplishing one thing a day IS an accomplishment. 💚 🫂

I’ve started wearing hats, even when I’m alone in my apartment. It takes some of the sensory down. Like a wide brimmed sun hat, sometimes. But just saying, maybe try that and see if it helps? 🥰

Girl - We need to plan that skydiving 🪂! Your non negotiables are yours and yours alone. I will say maybe try making accommodations/ modifications to your activities to better match your tolerance for stimulation / activities that day. That is ok. If I was facing this disease I’d be making modifications all day long to try and keep living. But these choices are so very personal and we support however you chose to navigate this ruthless illness 💕

That’s a good question. For me I don’t think my non negotiable would be socializing. It would probably be anger. Anger with myself and with loved ones. Btw I am an end of life doula and specialize with Alzheimer’s. Reach out if you ever need to talk ❤️

Order some loop earplugs…they have a bunch of different models that can help with quieting the noise. Hopefully that could help you a bit?
