I visited the Custer battlefield in August 1980...spent 2 hrs walking the site...I was the only person there...tried to imagine what the scene would have been like...the next summer a brush fire went through, exposing artifacts such as spent shell casings. I bought a poster of Sitting Bull (Tatanka Yotanka) at the gift shop

Most of Custers soldiers were NOT born Americans.
They were recently arrived immigrants, like, Germans, Poles, Czechs, Irish etc.
Most of these peoples did not understand the English language!
