if we used Roman concrete no cracks would appear since it's self repairing

if we could finally crack the full recipe to roman concrete I feel like that's the missing key to 3d printing houses

there is absolutely no need to "3d print" concrete. we can already use forms to mold things. i could have pured this house for half the cost and it would be fine. they have full wall forms that can be removed, insulated blocks that can be formed ect. this is by far the dumbest use of technology.

The problem with 3-D printed houses is there is no reinforcement to keep that cement from cracking that isn’t why it is not a good idea to get a 3D printed house

To be fair I was touring newly built houses last year and all the houses I looked at had cracks on the outside and some of them had foundation settling cracks on the inside too

There is a difference between cosmetic surface cracks and deep, concerning structural cracks. That why there are expansion joints in sidewalk, so the concrete can expand and contract

there's only 2 kinds of concrete. concrete that has already cracked, and concrete that has not yet cracked 😅

No seal coat, no paint protecting the concrete, no plaster to smooth it off and protect it. Exposed concrete cracks when its load bearing, moisture is no joke 👍

Just cover it in the same stuff used in OTHER houses to not let concrete crack

feels like it need a exterior layer of concrete to protect the intore portion and flattens it out
It might just be me but the edges and bumps collect water causing it to decay faster

That’s not generally true. The market value of lower quality houses is lower. Nobody would buy $300k 3d printed house if a brick house the same size is also $300k

first, the tech behind extrusion printing buildings wasn't marketed to be used in expensive markets, it was originally intended to rapidly manufacture single floor homes in underdeveloped or in need areas. second, the tech is still under development, and this is clearly showing why it isn't fully deployed yet. these kinds of defects could probably be overcome with different site prep, concrete blends, or other strain relief features, but more experimentation and time seeing what kinds of failures may occur is needed. this isn't proof it can't work, that's not how engineering new tech happens.
