HORSE OWNERS: HOW MUCH DOES A HORSE'S PAST MATTER WHEN YOU'RE WORKING WITH THEM? ❤️ We're wrapping up this handsome rescue's hoof trimming appointment at HomeFarm at Undermountain Road in Lenox, Massachusetts. One thing I always remind people when working with rescue horses is that we don't necessarily know what they've been through before they arrived. We don't know every experience they've had, how they were handled, or what they've learned to expect from people. And that's something I keep in mind every time I pick up a foot. This boy is now part of a training program at HomeFarm, where he's receiving the patience, attention, and excellent care he deserves. ❤️ As I finish his routine 6-week hoof trim, I'm talking you through what I'm seeing, how I'm evaluating his hoof balance, toe length, heel position, hoof wall growth and wear patterns, and why I'm making the adjustments I do. But good horse hoof care goes beyond using a hoof knife, nippers and rasp. It's also about understanding the horse attached to those four feet. Whether you're working with a rescue horse, a young horse learning to stand for the farrier, or an older horse with special needs, patience, safe horse handling, consistent farrier care and building trust can make a tremendous difference. And I have to give a lot of credit to the wonderful people at HomeFarm at Undermountain Road. The horses here are cared for exceptionally well, and it's a privilege to play a small part in keeping their feet healthy as they move forward into their next chapters. If you love horses, believe in second chances, or want to support a nonprofit making a difference for rescued animals, please take a moment to visit their website: ❤️ https://www.homefarmundermountain.org/ Four feet finished, another 6-week trim complete, and one handsome boy getting the fresh start he deserves. 🐴❤️ 👇 HORSE OWNERS, FARRIERS & RESCUE VOLUNTEERS: Do you approach rescue horses differently when you don't know their history? I'd love to hear your experiences. #farrier #rescuehorse #hoofcare #horses #hoof
