Japanese: 呪術廻戦, Jūjutsu Kaisen is a manga series created by Gege Akutami and serialized in Shueisha 's Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine since March 2018. The chapters were later collected and re-released as tankōbon , with 30 volumes published as of December 2024. [ 4 ] It is a sequel to the prequel Magical Battle 0 , which was serialized from April to July 2017 and later collected into a single tankōbon. The manga is licensed for English-language release in North America by Viz Media , which has published the manga in print since December 2019. Shueisha publishes the manga in English on the online platform Manga Plus . Two light novels were published in May 2019. An anime adaptation by MAPPA was produced by MAPPA , the first season of which aired from October 2020 to March 2021. A feature-length film adaptation of the prequel manga, Jujutsu Kaisen 0 the Movie, premiered on December 24, 2021. [ 5 ] A second season premiered on July 6, 2023. The anime is licensed by Crunchyroll for streaming outside Asia. In Russia, since 2022, the manga has been published by Azbuka-Attikus in the format of two-volume omnibuses [ 6 ] . As of August 2022, the Magical Battle manga has sold over 70 million copies worldwide, including digital versions and Magical Battle 0, making it one of the best- selling manga series of all time . In 2024, "Magical Battle" was included in the Guinness Book of World Records as the most popular anime [ 7 ] . The Ministry of Information of the Republic of Belarus added the manga "Magic Battle" to its website "the list of printed publications containing information messages and/or materials, the distribution of which could harm the national interests of the Republic of Belarus." Thus, the series was recognized as extremist material and banned from free distribution [ 8 ] . Since September 8, 2025, a sequel, "Magic Battle: Modulo," has been released , taking place 68 years after the "Deadly Migration" (the main events) of the magical battle.
