Houston Street in New York City is named after William Houstoun, a Georgia delegate to the Continental Congress and a lawyer. He was the18th-century son-in-law of Nicholas Bayard, whose family owned the land in Manhattan where the street was developed. It is not named after Sam Houston, the famous Texan.

It's like Beaufort, NC and Beaufort, SC. They are pronounced differently in each state.
