I had a colposcopy, they said take a paracetamol, I said, you will give me local anaesthetic, because women have been through too much and I will not suffer just because you think that's ok. I needed to fight for it, but I refuse to feel like a lesser woman cos I want to avoid pain!

In the Uk. Getting mine in is the single most painful experience I’ve ever had. No anaesthetics, it was awful

How is it getting one removed? I’m overdue getting mine out 😭 but I’m scared. Only using a private gyno because my danish gp has tried unaliving me 2x now.

Czech Republic, two IUDs, always under full anaesthesia which was recommended for someone who hasn't given birth prior 🤷🏼‍♀️

I got an IUD about 10 years ago in DK and had it removed about 6 months later. No anesthesia. I’m happy to hear it’s gotten better although my experience wasn’t terrible.

Girl you were lucky. The first time I got IUD In Denmark just dome paracetamol and the wors pain I have ever felt. 2nd time I needed to force the doctor to give me a referral to a gynecologist who gave me local anastesia.

I got that and it was so much better ❤ she said, you don’t need it, but I said I have birth drama and I can’t deal with pain like that. And she said, ok ❤️and it didn’t cost anything more.

It depends what they are checking, if they are checking for, for an example, cervical cancer, or at least cell changes, they have to take a biopsy, which means cutting a bit of your uterus, and therefor local anesthesia could be necessary

Same in Austria. You can def have anesthesia as in it is recommended. It is usually done during the period coz then the cervix is a bit open. Women who have had kids already usually don’t need it as cervix opens up more.

England here. I haven't had to switch mine over yet, but when I do in a couple of years and be insisting on a local anaesthetic. Our bodies already go through so much and I won't have someone tell me that it doesn't hurt when clearly it does, according to millions of women's accounts around the world.

I wanna tell you something - I’m Danish, got anesthesia as well at both insertions. That’s mostly normal in my experience. What they didn’t tell me was that I couldn’t have IUD’s for 10 years, so I developed a lump in my neck (it’s a syndrome you can develop from IUDs) and ended up needing surgery getting it removed. I’m all for hormonal birth control, but ai would really recommend the book by Sarah E. Phil (think that’s her name) called ‘How the pill changes everything’. After getting the second one removed my doctor told me that I should never use hormonal birth control again which I haven’t since - and for me that’s a good choice. The book encourages us to make our own choices but informs about pros and cons.

I had to go to a gynecologist to get mine removed, because my uterus and cervix is retroverted and my general doctor couldn't remove it. It was unpleasant and painful, but I pulled through. My gynecologist, who's definitely a very old schooled type of woman, who seems to give zero fluffs about anything beeing unpleasant, afterwards told me she was quite impressed - she was on the verge to recommend me to undergo full anesthesia in the hospital because it was so difficult, and she didnt think i should go through so much pain. But i have a high pain tolerance and I pulled through. What I'm trying to say is, Danish gynecologists don't accept pain beeing a part of women's health. If you experience pain, they will try to relieve it, because you shouldn't associate your abdomen with pain. even the old schooled doctors, who might deem some discomfort as silly, don't think you need to go through it. So if a doctor deems it necessary for you to get an local anaesthetica, just appreciate you have a good doctor, who's looking out for your wellbeing.

As a Dane, I am wondering what you paid for? Was it a private gynecologist? Or did you pay for the iud at the gynecologist? Cause usually everything but the IUD is free

There has been discussions for years about which creatures are able to feel pain. Maybe women finally made it to the yes-list.
