Unpopular opinion, I believe you need to ask your client of any changes since the previous session and let them “vent” in the beginning.

Does anyone have any tips as a therapist for the first one? I find it difficult to interrupt clients who come in and want to vent bc I don’t want to be invalidating or cut them off even tho I understand at the same time it’s not always productive

I work with teens and if they feel forced to come to help build rapport I tell them that not every session has to be full on therapy therapy. if they need a venting session or if they want to color or do something in silence to help decompress I allow it but I do explain it can't be every session. it often works well because then they know if they had a long day and just want to rant or sit in silence that they can't get at home they can get it with me

I am upset when mine keeps watching me in silence even if I stop talking and they say:”I understand “😓

This makes total sense. When therapist really knows your history, the way you move through the world—it can feel grounding in a way that’s honestly rare. I’ve been through many therapist. I don’t have to explain myself here. That kind of recognition hits deep. He always lets me know when it’s me overthinking things or even when I’m getting better at how I’m handling my stressors. I’ve learned to be ok with my BPD.

I had THE BEST therapist for 8 years. She retired in December and I miss her terribly. She did all of these things. I’ve never felt so seen and heard.

how does one even go about hiring a therapist? there's a 1000 listed on the insurance website but it's quite daunting...

I once recalled a pattern of phrases that was originally said months ago and the client said “you either have your notes opened or you have really good memory cause I didn’t even remember that.” I felt like therapist of the year.

My therapist is not good at therapy , he’s a good person but he is not good at therapy imo . I’ve also asked him several times to stop asking me “ so what do you want to talk about today ? “ or “what questions do you want me to ask you ?” … I had high hopes in the beginning but but I can’t handle my part AND his ..
