You're doing great going with the growth of the hair! I'm a dog groomer and I can shed some insight as to why its so expensive for anyone curious. 1) Not all dogs are created equal. We have to have a range of pricing that is both fair and will cover time/labor. Typically done by having a base price for the standard breed and then addon fees for bad behavior like biting, funky coats that need more TLC, and size outside of the standard for that breed. 2) To get our shears and blades sharpened is very expensive and done out of pocket, typically $16 per shear and $8-10 per blade, which adds up a lot. Our equipment beyond that goes in to the hundreds and sometimes thousands that we pay for ourselves. 3) It is physical labor so our bodies hurt all the time, I know 23-27 year olds who have already had surgeries on their shoulders or backs from grooming. 4) We are typically paid a commission of 40-60% while the salon we work for keeps the rest. So after all that work and expenses on our end, we're only making part of that total cost. 😭 I hope this helps anyone who might wonder! And if you are happy grooming your babies at home and they're good for you, more power to you!
