In my state university cops require the exact same training/certifications as a regular cop and are paid well. Only private colleges have security guards instead of certified LEOs.

Very dependent on the university. I’ve been with a city PD for 5 years, but did 1.5 years at a large university. Loved it and gained a ton of good experience at a slightly slower pace. Also worked at a university that was supportive of proactive police work, most do not.

Translates very well from military LE, big on community engagement, some campus officers are out in the city too depending on MOA/MOUs, get out what you put in, same cons as a small dept typically
