Why would God change a gang member like me? I don't deserve love. I'm selfish and narcissistic. Lustful and greedy. Yet God didn't kill me. How could I not love God after that? That's the question I come back to every time I try to make sense of my life. Because by every measure, I shouldn't be here. Not just alive. Changed. Loving God. Preaching the Gospel. None of that makes sense without Him. Because the version of me that existed before God wasn't someone who deserved any of it. And God didn't pretend otherwise. He didn't overlook what I was. He looked right at it. All of it. The selfishness. The lust. The greed. The ego that put myself above everyone else. And He didn't call me by any of that. He called me by my name. That's what undid me. Not a list of rules. Not a threat. Not condemnation. Just Him knowing my name and choosing it anyway. Romans 5:8 says,

That's what changed a gang member like me. Not religion. Not rules. Just love I didn't deserve and couldn't explain.
