Sorry to break it to you, but this isn’t hitting the firmament. This is called the Jellyfish Effect, which occurs when a rocket is in sunlight, while the ground is in darkness. The rocket's exhaust expands due to it being in a near-vacuum and gets illuminated by the sun, creating this beautiful effect. It happens when the rocket is around 90 miles above the ground.

When you read the Bible plainly, it presents creation as a structured and ordered system, not an open, undefined space. And just to be clear, Scripture uses the word “heaven” in three ways depending on context..the sky where birds fly, the firmament (the expanse where the sun, moon, and stars are placed), and God’s dwelling place beyond all creation (Genesis 1:20, 1:14–17 & 2 Cor 12:2). Genesis 1:6–8, God creates the firmament, an expanse that separates the waters below from the waters above. This isn’t described as empty space, but something God formed and stretched out, like a curtain or tent (Psalm 104:2, Isaiah 40:22), and even described as strong, almost solid in Job 37:18. Scripture also says there are waters above this firmament (Genesis 1:7, Psalm 148:4) and speaks of “windows of heaven” opening (Genesis 7:11, Malachi 3:10), pointing to a layered, structured system above the earth, not just open space. The earth itself is consistently described as fixed and established (Psalm 93:1, Psalm 104:5, 1 Chronicles 16:30), with foundations and pillars (Job 38:4–6, 1 Samuel 2:8). Its shape is referred to as a “circle” (Isaiah 40:22, Proverbs 8:27), and Scripture speaks of the ends or corners of the earth (Isaiah 11:12, Revelation 7:1), which reads naturally as a world with boundaries. The sun, moon, and stars are placed in the firmament (Genesis 1:14–17) in the expanse above the earth and are described as moving across it. This is seen clearly in Joshua 10:12–13, where Joshua commands, “Sun, stand still… and Moon, stop,” and the text says they did exactly that. The earth is never mentioned as moving or needing to stop only the sun and moon are. Taken plainly, this reinforces the consistent biblical pattern..the earth is presented as fixed, while the sun and moon move above it, and in this moment, God supernaturally stopped their movement. So we have a fixed earth beneath a stretched-out firmament, with layers above it (including waters) and God’s dwelling place beyond it all. As for me, I hold God’s Word as the final authority in faith and life and believe what He says rather than what NASA and the world paint it out to be!
