Also, Hiragana was invented by women (they were prohibited from studying Kanji). And a woman wrote the first Japanese novel: The Tale of Genji.

The hardest part is where Kanji characters can be pronounced either as the Japanese word they stand for, or as (an approximation of) the Chinese word it originated from. And then they’re both used but in different ways
