🤎STANLEY🤎 🚨 DEADLINE OF WED 6/3/26 AT 3PM 🚨 ID #116773 FROM THE SHELTER RESCUE OFFICE ON 5/28/26: "This plea is for Stanley, a 5-year-old male Chihuahua/Dachshund mix in need of a rescue placement or experienced adopter willing to give him the time, patience, and decompression he desperately needs. Stanley appears to have experienced significant stress and instability prior to arriving at the shelter. According to reports, he was abandoned in a playpen at a cat rescue in Buford, GA and was then confined in a garage for several days before intake. Upon arrival, Stanley was bleeding from the mouth after repeatedly biting a catch pole, and staff were unable to triage him due to his elevated stress level. During initial handling attempts for triage, Stanley bit a staff member on the thumb, resulting in a mandatory 10-day quarantine. Unfortunately, no microchip or owner information has been found. Since intake, Stanley has consistently displayed fear-based defensive behaviors rather than offensive aggression. Staff observations include retreating, defensive barking, stiff body posture, growling when pressured, showing teeth, flight responses, and heavy stress panting. During his behavioral assessment, Stanley initially could not tolerate leash handling; however, with patience, soft verbal communication, and slow desensitization, staff were eventually able to leash and walk him safely. Even then, he remained extremely over-threshold, with a tucked tail and persistent panting, indicating severe fear and emotional overwhelm. Behavior staff specifically documented “extreme fear and defensive reactivity” and noted that Stanley would benefit greatly from decompression, low-stress handling, and continued behavioral support. His responses appear closely tied to fear, confinement stress, and handling pressure rather than stable, intentional aggression. Importantly, Stanley has shown moments of cooperative behavior when allowed time to settle. Staff were able to partially complete a microchip scan while he rested calmly in the office, suggesting he may continue to improve outside of the shelter environment with consistency and trust-building. At this time, Stanley is not presenting as adoption-ready within the kennel environment; however, shelter notes strongly suggest a dog operating in survival mode rather than one beyond help. We believe he deserves the opportunity to decompress in a rescue or experienced adopter home where he can begin to feel safe again. Stanley is currently available for: • Rescue pull • Special adoption with a signed behavior waiver Stanley has not yet been fully triaged, vaccinated, microchipped, neutered, or heartworm tested, but all necessary veterinary care will be completed prior to leaving the building with confirmed rescue placement or adopter commitment. In addition to compassionate care, Stanley will need continued behavioral rehabilitation and patient handling to give him the best possible chance at a comfortable and happy future. Stanley must have rescue or adopter commitment no later than 3:00 PM on Wednesday, June 3rd. If you are able to help Stanley, please contact us as soon as possible.
