Mock it up and clamp it with vise grips and carry it to the welder. Paint it and install it. The 5/8 studs are low grade and will break before even a couple 3/8 bolts if they are grade 8.

Since seeing your video on this I’ve started sticking two bolts in mine and then putting an inch or two of weld on them, seen plenty of them crack the welds from vibration. Figure a couple bolts is good insurance

I am a firm believer that no matter what load it’s is radial or torsional there should always be a weak point.

What breaks them is the way the brackets are welded if you weld one side fully it will cause it to bend that direction putting extra tension on the pump studs I weld all my brackets since i learned that I haven’t had one break

It’s hard to find a fitter that fully understands hydraulics on a 4 trailer road train side tipper. And when you find that person you keep them tight. They are not many around. I know it’s bad really bad.

I weld my brackets but it's part of the regular maintenance to check them to see if they're cracked and what cracks them when you're on soft road and you're bottoming out especially on gravel roads

They break because the piss poor design and even worse installation. Vibration is usually what gets them because the compounding errors end up concentrating the stress on the studs.

Makes a lot of sense, Mike what I would do but then I’m way past it now, a good modification is way better than the original design in many cases. when my old boss many years ago bought a new truck to the fleet, I would spend nearly a week modifying brackets and strengthening things because I knew they would break within the first month out on the road.
