@jessicanturner: When I got divorced, I thought Sundays would always be hard. They were the day the kids transitioned from my house to their dad’s. I read about high emotions and possible turmoil. But then I read a post from a friend who said she always did something to make it a day to look forward to for her kids. That really hit me. So I started a tradition - big breakfast Sundays. I would cook up bacon, pancakes, eggs – a full spread. And that predictability was a stable thing in my kids’ lives and the steadiness we all needed during that time. I’ve been making big breakfast for more than five years. It has become a favorite tradition and something my kids look forward to, week after week. Science tells us predictability helps kids feel safe. But I didn’t need a study to see it — I saw it in their excitement when they wake up, in the way they hug me in the kitchen, in how Sundays became something they look forward to. Routines don’t make life boring. They make kids feel secure. And sometimes, they turn hard days into really good ones. Do you have a weekly practice your family enjoys? Tell me below.
