A federal judge has temporarily blocked the Trump administration from enforcing new requirements tied to billions of dollars in federal nutrition funding after a coalition of 20 states and Washington, D.C., challenged the policy in court. On June 5, U.S. District Judge Myong Joun granted a preliminary injunction preventing the U.S. Department of Agriculture from implementing the contested conditions while the legal battle continues. The restrictions affected several USDA-funded programs, including SNAP, the nation’s largest food assistance program, which serves millions of low-income Americans. The lawsuit was filed by Democratic-led states that argued the administration’s new funding conditions could jeopardize congressionally approved aid and disrupt programs relied upon by vulnerable families. State officials contended that the USDA lacked the authority to impose the requirements and claimed they were unrelated to the agency’s nutrition and agriculture responsibilities. According to court filings, the disputed provisions required states to certify compliance with various federal policy positions involving issues such as immigration, gender-related policies, and women’s sports. The states argued the conditions were unclear, legally questionable, and imposed without following proper procedures. The coalition includes states such as California, New York, Massachusetts, Illinois, New Jersey, Washington, Oregon, and Colorado, among others, along with the District of Columbia. Federal attorneys defended the policy, saying the requirements were designed to improve oversight of taxpayer-funded programs and ensure recipients follow federal laws and regulations. Administration lawyers argued the measures would strengthen accountability and protect public funds. Judge Joun said a detailed written explanation of his ruling will be released at a later date.#fyp #viral
