@airjobboss: Is being an airline pilot worth all of the time trouble expense and time away. I think you’ll be surprised at my answer #PilotLife #Aviation #AirlinePilot #Airline #AirJobBoss.
Retiring in one month after 34 years at a legacy. It was worth it. I wouldn’t do anything differently except start flying lessons at 16 instead of 23.

I wanted to be a pilot for the longest time until my dad said “you know that’s cool, but your just a glorified bus driver for the sky” and I’ve never looked at it the same

21 days? Really? I’m at about 13, made $415k doing the bare minimum flying. I’m home so much I’m bored to tears. My 22 years as a Marine were much harder on the family, but also way more rewarding.

Nice take. Most commercial pilots i talk to love their job and don’t want to retire.

The job will absolutely take a toll both mentally and physically. I am 57 and about to walk away from it. I see a LOT of fellow airline pilots retire at 65 only to pass away a year or two later. There is a VERY good reason why airline pilots are paid so well.

if you want a family and a relationship: dont be a pilot

excuse me Sir, I'm about to sign up for a flight school and listening to your words makes me question myself a lot, so here's my question: Do you think it would be possible to build a life in the middle between being always at home and being a ghost for everyone (as a pilot of course)? I don't know if you get what I mean

Remember, that’s just his opinion. It doesn’t define you, your dreams, or your future as a pilot. Everyone’s journey is different — different airlines, training paths, challenges, and successes. Just because he had one experience doesn’t mean your path will be the same. Don’t let someone else’s doubts shake your confidence. You have a whole career ahead of you, and your passion and determination matter far more than anyone else’s opinion. Keep your eyes on your goals and keep flying toward your dream! ✈️

There are no fun jobs if you want to be well off financially. I spoke to a lawyer who said the same exact thing as this pilot. She was working at 9 pm one night saying she needs to work for at least 3 more hours, and mentioned how people see lawyers as high status and wealthy, but people don’t realize that she pays for it with time. Every job sucks.

Thanks for not sugar coating the job and glamorizing it all like most aviation influencers

Daybreak over the Amazon, enroute to Sao Paulo a 10 hour brutal 3 man crew trip worth 21 hours of pay. 9k$ worth it?

Your 20, 30 and 40 year old self disagrees with you. Every flight, new rating, new aircraft, sim training, friends you made, new route, new destination places you got to discover, made it worth it. Because you have 1 foot out the door now, you are questioning your choice. Had you become a lawyer you would be questioning that too, approaching retirement.

I’m 30 and I’m currently a software engineer. But my true passion is aviation. I’m currently working towards my private pilot’s license. Is it still worth pursuing commercial aviation pilot?

Airline flying is nearly the ideal life for a single man. High social validation, excellent pay, copious off duty time in exotic destinations. He can choose the ideal place to live based on commuting, climate, and social structure, without regard for family ties. Much of what makes airline flying ideal for the playboy lifestyle -- is anathema to the family man life -- and many family man pilots are drawn into the status and girls, and excitement of the life far away from home

I got my commercial and stopped, I think about what he said daily, I started my training single and the pilot life sounded awesome, now I have a girl 3 years in, thinking about kids, thinking about family and now being away doesn’t sound so good, I’m in a Limbo to where I don’t know if I should finish what I started or shift to a different thing. I’m 25. I want my family to have everything and I know pilot pay would fulfill that, but sacrificing My kids first steps or firsts words, my wife raising my kids practically alone. They don’t talk about that in Ground School.

I’ll be 30 by the time I can financially afford to get into training. Is it worth it? Yes it’s my driving dream and passion since I was a child. But is 30 too old? Regardless of the “dream” thing…
