@oneupmoto: Step 1: Find all the pinholes! This can be done one of two ways. Fill the tank up with a liquid (I usually use vinegar for this as I soak it for rust removal) and mark all the leaks. Or you can seal the tank, pressure test it, and spray leak detector around while looking for bubbles. *Best homemade leak detector is water with lots of dish soap and glycerine as a thickener to help form bubbles over the tiniest of pinholes* Step 2: Make sure the inside of the tank has been thoroughly de-rusted and cleaned/ dried before step 3. There’s many ways to do this, but I use vinegar and then baking soda to remove all rust and debris- check out my other videos on that process. Step 3: To seal the holes, I use a TIG welder set to around 70amp max and use my foot control to keep the heat down. Careful with this. It’s very easy to blow through thin rusted sheet metal! You can also braze, or even MIG weld holes. MIG is harder to control blow throughs from my experience. And I have not tried brazing personally, but would love to hear tips for those techniques! Step 4: Recheck that your sealing technique has worked and repeat the process until there are no more pinholes. Step 5: Send it! #motorcycle #mechanic #DIY #howto #satisfying
