Apologetics is deductive reasoning in reverse. Common sense suggests you can't reach a conclusion without evidence, so apologetics is a desperate attempt to rationalize a delusion.

My dad was is a Methodist biblical scholar at Harvard and Princeton from the 60s to the 90s. He taught Old Testament in the Midwest for 20 years. He did not believe the Bible was literal, he believed it was the story of people trying to describe their experience with God and the divine. There are many references to actual historical events, and there are many stories meant to teach a concept, but that never actually happened. You have to read the Bible for its wisdom. It is not a literal historic account.
