Weak or under trained back muscles mean other areas have to compensate, and that’s when posture slips, shoulders ache, sleep quality drops, and those “random” niggles start showing up. Most women I coach spend plenty of time training glutes, abs, maybe a bit of arms… but back training is often inconsistent or skipped altogether. Over time, that imbalance shows up as rounded shoulders, neck tension, and everyday tasks like carrying bags or lifting objects feeling harder than they should. Your back isn’t just about how it looks. The muscles of your upper and lower back support your spine, stabilise your shoulders, and help distribute load properly through your body. When your back is strong, movement feels more efficient, lifts feel more stable, and injury risk is reduced. Rows, pulldowns, and deadlifts aren’t “extras”, they’re foundational. Different training for different results. I don’t train back at this moment at all. Because it makes my back broad and I don’t want a broad back. So I train glutes/leg and arms. My results are amazing. Once I’m down to a good body fat percentage I will add back a few times a month for strength a little definition.
