This is the scene Sammie envisions when he returns to the plantation and his father says "my heart *flash to Pearline at the juke* my voice *flash to Delta Slim* my soul *flash to this moment* belongs to god" Sammie's heart is Pearline, his voice was cultivated to it's fullness by Slim, and his soul was ALWAYS in guitar. And he decided to let that be his guide, not the religious thing that just a few hours ago nearly killed him.

this scene makes sense more so if you listen to the soundtrack. its basically an extension of the church discussion at the beginning when his fathers ask him to set up a song to sing with the kids on Sunday. he's playing it for his father.
