This could mean that the hydrant needs to be replaced because it’s not draining down. I have that exact issue right now. And in Michigan, ALWAYS WRAP!!!

Hay bales with a tarp over it and put a space heater for a couple of hours. After it thaws definitely wrap it lol

is the actual pipe frozen or is it just the handle? bc my handle will freeze once in a blue moon when really cold. I just pour a little warm water on it to get it up. don't listen to them dummies, rather be safe than sorry, heat tape all the way

I have frost free hydrants as well & they are wrapped up tight! Go with what ya know girl! They also laugh at me for having the heat tape and my blue $100 garden hose that has a heat tape on the inside. Best investment I ever made was my garden hose & wraps!! It withstands the Montana winters!

Frost free doesn’t seem the same as freeze free. #fencefund

I feel you! I’m having to haul water from the house, to the barn for our goats. And we live 15 min drive on icy roads from the barn😭

did the water freeze at pipe? or underground? as it started back up after heat...heated electrical pipe wrap? Dad wrap our same kind outside the warehouse with it. that metal pipe doesn't like super cold.

We have a winter box with a rug on top so ours won't freeze. Just bc the water drains doesn't mean it won't freeze.

A metal heating duct vent, a hair dryer on high and a feed bag work AMAZING on a frozen hydrant. It takes like 15-30mins to heat

Check the type of hydrant you have check for leaks and the depth. It may not be the right one or at the right depth. We got numerous days of -33 and mine never froze nor did I cover it. My frost line is also 6ft minimum and mine is buried at 7ft along with the water line to the house.
