@dr_emilly: Skin barrier repair doesn’t happen in seven days. Early improvement is reduced inflammation and water loss, not full barrier repair. True skin barrier recovery typically takes weeks not days. #skinbarrier #skinbarriercare #barrierrepair #dryskin #sensitiveskin

I'm 20yrs old nd mistakenly damaged my barrier by retinol and not knowing it is not a regular serum n yeah without following sunscreen. now i have acne and post acme marks so am thinking of repairing it by using azelaic acid but first wanna repair it. so how can i , how long it takes it to repair, and what product to use? I've heard that zinc oxide is used to repair damaged skin barrier. so what are your thoughts on it plz let me know abt all the knowledge?!

I’m on month 4 and my skin is still not where I want it. However, it has improved SO MUCH. I was over exfoliating for years in high school and thought I just had bad acne/skin… but coming to find out my barrier was just severely damaged from years of exfoliating. I’m using cetaphil gentle cleanser, Nivea moisturizer and diaper cream. Was using cicaplast and cicalfate too!! They’re just alittle pricey atm

A few years ago I absolutely wrecked my barrier with tretinoin and got a serious burn from it. It took close to a year before my skin was sorta back to normal. But there was a noticeable increase in sebum production for 3-4 years afterwards. Now I'm back to normal. But man, that was a scarry experience. Only products that didn't burn easy LRP lipikar baume AP and cezanne skin conditioner high moist

Isotretinoin wrecked my barrier 1 year ago. My skin is still reactive and sensitive. I use no actives, just a cleanser, moistorizer and spf. But its healing so slowww!

I feel like my skin is on fire a few weeks into adapaline every other night …I’m melanated so it doesn’t look red (in fact most of the time it looks amazing)..but there is this leathery texture near my eyes and when i use sunscreen or almost any product it hurts. 😭. Any help is appreciated

Absolutely Emily , mine took over a year of I am really honest and what a nightmare that was , stopping using products and using a basic simple routine and taking pro biotics (not sure if that helped but I think it did) I now have to stay away from essential oils and I still haven’t touched retinoids as I’m still afraid too , but no you can’t repair skin barrier in a week , it did take me over a year xx

So that 2nd week of healing that light firm tightness is normal? ? After simple skin care routine? Like moisturizing then acclusive ointment over it? At night?

It took me 8, almost 9 weeks to repair mine. It definitely takes longer then you think and you’ll probably second guess yourself half way through 🫠

I'm lost on if I should be using hyaluronic acid whilst I'm trying to repair my barrier, I have super sensitive skin so currently sticking to a gentle cleanse at night, hyaluronic acid then a simple cream but my skin still stings 😭😂
