TikTok has single-handedly ruined the general public’s perception of fame. Follower counts don’t reflect how famous someone is in the real world. The most famous people in the world have less than a million followers in some cases because they’re not “content creators”. Meanwhile there are people with 50 million followers that the vast majority of people have never heard of. People on TikTok think they’re celebrities but there are hundreds of thousands of TikTok accounts with over a million followers it means absolutely nothing.

It’s cause back 10 years ago, you pretty much only saw content on your feed from people you follow. Now after tik toks rise, every social media platform has a “for you page” where content is served algorithmically based on viewing habits and who you follow. So now you can see Alix Earle’s or The Rock’s content without actually needing to follow them.
