that's not the only reason. you left out utilities are out of control and so is food cost. everything is so expensive. if you don't get inflation under control you can pay somebody $100 an hour it doesn't matter.

no pension plans was the start then health insurance skyrocketed. Now we have bad 401ks and high deductible insurance plans. These are where it started. Taxes is big too. Daycare as well.

When people tell me “you really want to move to a place where 50% of your income goes to taxes”… my response is “after healthcare costs (premiums +deductible, not including copays) and taxes I am only getting 50% of my check anyway, and in other places, property, electricity, and transportation do not eat up the rest of the salary”. I’ve calculated it out and even making less money there, you usually can still save more because the food is better and more filling, you don’t need a car EVERYDAY, and not everything is centered around consumerism.
