Oh my God, this is my story. I only recently posted it to Reddit. To answer a few of your questions, here’s some of the precautions I was instructed to follow: 1. I no longer walk through dark bushland areas, always avoid if possible. 2. Always be extra vigilant of respecting the rules of aboriginal land. 3. I also have a charm that’s meant to keep me safe and keep the presence at a distance.. but sometimes I feel it watching me from a far.

A Mokoi is a malevolent spirit from Australian Aboriginal mythology, specifically the Yolngu or Murngin people of Arnhem Land, often described as a skeletal or shadowy figure that causes death, disease, and misfortune. It is believed to hunt sorcerers who use black magic and can kidnap children at night to consume their life force, acting as an agent of fear to enforce traditional laws this according to ai overview?

Australian and honestly haven’t heard of a mokoi but could be from a different part of Australia. Sounds like a northern territory or South Australia thing

I live in Australia and I used to do scouts one time I went on a bush walk at night and I ended up being way far behind the rest of the group where I couldn't see or here them there was supposed to be someone at the back making sure everyone was OK but I couldnt see her either and I knew she wasn't ahead of me cause I made sure I never let her walk past me it was dark and I was like 12 years old and I was terrified I felt a similar feeling like someone was watching me or stalking me I remember I just started running trying find the group but I couldn't find them and then I called my parents and was talking to them after what felt like 2 hours but was probably only like 15 minutes i caught up to the group I've never heard of a mokoi but I feel like it was something like that I was scared of bushland for months after that now I live near bush trails and I sometimes walk in them but only during the day and I never go to far in by myself i still get that feeling when I walk through the bush sometimes also one time I swear I saw a ghost in the bush trail near my house I walked past there and there was a lady in all white gown who looked like she was smoking but something about her didknt feel real she was staring at me the whole time I walked past and when I looked back a few seconds later she was gone

The average Australian wouldn’t have a lot of insight into this, which is really sad. Systemic racism has stifled the teaching of indigenous Australian culture so by extension indigenous folklore isn’t really widely known. This feels a little dismissive or indigenous culture as a whole but speaking purely as an Australian that loves spooky stuff, it’s sad to admit that I know a lot more about the folklore of a bunch of other countries than I do about indigenous Australia folk lore. I like this series though, it’s giving a bunch of stuff to look into, so that’s pretty cool.

I saw a dark figure in my room one night. I woke up randomly and he was standing in my room. looking at me. it was in Tasmania. I couldn't sleep for days. I kept waking up at that time of night. it wasn't sleep paralysis bc I was awake and able to move. my stomach sank when I saw it. I waited till morning to scream cause it felt like I wasn't supposed to make a sound. it happened in Tasmania. I moved and haven't seen it since.

oh hell no. This is exactly why you never go in the woods at night, so many different cultures have stories that follow a similar pattern to this one. If you're tempted just don't do it it's not worth the risk.

I’m non-indigenous and have experienced very similar in the outback NT on my own at night on a flood plain. I was away from the camp where my co workers (indigenous women) were around the fire. They came to rescue me and they seen it too. I couldn’t sleep for a few nights after this. This was in 2019 and ill never forget 🫣
