…y’all IS Canadian in many regions, I think. I’m from southern Ontario and I grew up saying y’all

Y’all (singular) = you. All y’all (plural) = the person you’re addressing is a part of that group. Y’all (plural) = group

I say y’all to try and stop myself from saying “guys” as it doesn’t feel inclusive. “Guys” still slips… but I do my best. (From Vancouver BC)

As a queer southerner I often point out to other southerners that we’ve always had a gender neutral pronoun: y’all.

"Ya'll" and "all ya'll" are both acceptable plurals. Source: I have (sadly) lived in the south my entire life.

What English speaking person has NEVER said y'all, is my question? Y'all is such a regular contraction to use

Y’all means all of you, all y’all means “no really I MEAN it, all of you.”

Howdy. I started saying that even before I got horses lol. Btw the rule is different depending on where you are. Y’all plural is often fine but we all love “all y’all” 😃

One thing I did ironically was use the English pronunciation of "envelope" (ON-veh-lope) to sound pretentious back in Jr. High. It grew on me and I say it that way genuinely to this day, 20 years later.

in Vancouver Y'all is very common, especially amongst young ppl as its seen as a gender neutral term for a group.

Is this true across the states? I doubt it. I had a friend from Georgia that would say y’all and i did not get the impression that it could not be used in the plural.

I like using "y'all" because it's not gender specific. I used to use "you guys" . I picked it up in Texas whic can be used in both plural and singular.

As a Canadian, I purposely added "y'all" to my diction because I realized there was a hole in my vocabulary that needed to be filled by it. It's one of my favourite pronouns because it means I'm probably talking about multiple friends, and who can help but be happy about that.

A Texan friend told me exactly the same thing. Now, like others in the comments, I use ‘all y’all’ as a gender-neutral replacement for ‘you guys.’

I worked in a psych hospital, frequently on the adolescent unit. Something people don’t think about is that it’s actually very important to not be serious and dour and negative all the time. So, us staff would joke around with patients. I worked there when “bro” and “bruh” were being said by the kids like…ALL THE TIME. I started saying it ironically, but now I just use it all the time naturally 🤣

so, I grew up in Ontario. I dont remember what I used to use when I was young, but moved to BC when I was 17. I've been using all y'all for a while at least. I dont know if its a regional difference, or one picked up through media.
