@sambentley: This lady is making textiles using human hair, to help fight back against pollution in the textile industry. This is Zsofia Kollar, founder of Human Material Loop, based in the Netherlands, who wants to change society’s perspective on hair. Once it’s on the floor of a salon, society views hair as disposable waste, but it’s actually an incredible material. Hair is made from keratin, the strongest protein that nature has ever created. So how exactly does she turn it into textiles? Hair is collected from salons or donation centers. Everything above 3 cms gets sorted and cleaned. It’s then processed into yarns or non-woven products at a spinning mill in Barcelona. It can then be woven into fabric, to make clothes, insulation, carpets and more! The goal is to replace materials like polyester and wool, but also take on a destructive textile industry, one of the most exploitative industries that exist today. It has lengthy supply chains, it’s untraceable, often includes exploitation and unethical practices. But what Zsofia can provide is a fully traceable system, a material that does not need any land, water usage, pesticides and hurts no animals in the process. Would you wear a sweater made from hair? #goodnews #waste #TikTokForGood

Josie :
question is, if I commit a crime while wearing it and a little fabric falls off would that person's hair be traceable?

I'm not a fan of wearing anything other than cotton and natural materials and there's way too many synthetic material clothes now. this is fire

Good. Polyester and all those plastic clothes need to cut right down. Can’t understand how ppl tolerate 100% poly or acrylic jumpers. I would wear it but suspect it’s very expensive.

Hair as fabric would be too itchy for me. did we learn nothing from SpongeBob? next thing I know we're gonna make sweaters with our tears.
