@madelinemehria: Making Afghan pasta, deconstructed mantu, reminds me of how food evolves when families are forced to adapt, carrying culture and care into unfamiliar places with new ingredients and new realities. My parents immigrated here as refugees and now have citizenship, but their journey is part of how I understand what migration actually means. People do not leave their homes without reason. Whether for safety, survival, or the chance to live with dignity, migration is natural and it is a human right. I open my phone and see children being taken from classrooms, families hunted and separated, people detained in places designed to break them. Fear is being weaponized. Cruelty is being normalized. These are human beings. Not symbols. Not headlines. People with inner lives, with emotions, with the same capacity for fear, love, and pain as anyone else. What is happening is not normal, and it is not acceptable. I stand firmly against ICE and the violence inflicted on immigrant communities. Migration is not a crime. Humanity does not end at a border.
