I had a student from China and he gave me his American name. I called him by his Chinese name. It took time to get it right, but I did. He sent me something from China that I still have today.

My Grandma was renamed Doris because her name, Tsuruko, was too difficult for them to pronounce. I think it’s the “tsu” that trips them up, lol 😅

I had korean neighbours as a kid & they had both their real asian names & the western english names. So we only knew them by the english names since that was what they were comfortable with. They would say "my english name is ____". For their kids too. They were really sweet

I always found this really sad. Some Asian names can be a bit harder for English speakers to pronounce, but literally just do your best. I don’t think anyone should have to change their name or identity to “fit in”.
