@.moneyshift: Japan just launched electric kei vans. They're adorable. 160 miles of range. And they cost three times more than the gas versions. That's a problem. Toyota Pixis Van BEV. Daihatsu e-Hijet Cargo. Suzuki e-Every. Same tiny box. 63 horsepower. Cool idea. But $20,000 for a kei car misses the point. #carsoftiktok #cartok #kei #keivan #keitruck #japan
This is a response to BYD racco which is 2.5 million yen ($17k)

It’s not even like the kei trucks get bad fuel economy.

The Japanese government subsidizes electric kei cars up to $3900. Plus some cities and towns do too. Cost might break even after 15 years lol

so when you consider that Japan has higher gas prices as well as the lower maintenance for an EV The 10-year cost of ownership is significantly lower for the electric
In addition the Japanese government as well as local governments in Japan are providing significant incentives for electric
electric cars in Japan are not subject to initial purchase taxes and also have up to a 75% discount on annual car taxes.

don't forget to add the cost of each tank of gas to the cheaper one. add the cost of the power to the e one and then see what makes more sense

These are targeting the BYD Racco, and trying to be a more commercial and useful than the the Nissan Sakura which was a sales success in Japan. Toyota, and its stablemates, saw that people DO want EV Kei, so they're trying to pinch the market now

Idk man, seems fine to me. The lack scale for EVs makes prices higher, but 20k, I'd happily pay that.

That like the telo trucks making all these big claims yet they are electric so they are more expensive than even the base model of large trucks and the range is do small you can't even make it to all the jobsites you have to get to in a day.

I dare you to buy a Corolla and drive it on East Asian city streets. It’s a small car in the US, but in Asia it’s a freaking boat. A Kei truck is 1000% more maneuverable in those tight conditions.
