Just “retired” as in not working but I initially wanted to work again immediately . However, after working for someone else for 35 years, I want to work for myself. I want to call the shots so I’m taking time to figure things out.

I retired 4 years ago and I thought I would work part time but then my moms health went down and my parents had to move in with me. Now my full time unpaid internship is taking care of them and learning as I go. Plans can change and sometimes out of your control.

I agree! For me, I am considering myself semi-retired. I tried for 4 months and I was dying for something to do. Hobbies are one thing but I was yearning to use my brain and help others. This can be a mix of volunteer and/or paid work but keeping the brain sharp is my personal goal.

I actually have subbed occasionally for my 3 years of retirement. No headaches or stress of any kind, and I get to see my colleagues and students!

Maybe “financially independent” fits better? Although there are many people that hit FIRE that are still FTEs. Once I retire I’m still going to work at other gigs to stay useful and fulfilled. But the success of my retirement won’t depend on those jobs.

Work 2 days a week for 3 hours as part time janitor! Best job since High School! I am now the Danitor! I love being retired!!😎
