I’m so confused by people’s reviews. I understood pretty much everything that was said and I was ok board and felt on the edge of my seat the whole time. And the small bits of comedy helped with that even more. I thought it was so good.

I’m going to give some unbiased thoughts as somebody who isn’t a huge mark fan. I thought the movie was genuinely fantastic. I went into it concerned, seeing others reviews of confusion. I pretty much fully understood what was happening up until the last 5 minutes, but I think that’s the point. This movie is meant to make you think. It’s not supposed to be crystal clear. I didn’t have any problems with mixing at my theater. I thought the voices being harder to understand at the end was done on purpose, to amplify the feeling of insanity that Simon goes through. The entire movie I was captivated and truly felt trapped inside of the iron lung with Simon. I think the runtime helped to give that trapped atmosphere. I saw the film last night and have not been able to stop thinking about it since. PLEASE go see this film and form your own opinions! Overall 4.5/5 for me

I think Mark just shouldered too much. He has talent as both an actor and director, but those + editing + producing is just too singular of vision. A lot of it works though, I hope he gets to do more projects like this.

Mark did state that he learned so much from making this and that it has glaringly obvious flaws to him. this is still a really well done first stepping stone for him and im excited to see his more polished ideas in the future

I went into the movie seeing all the reviews of it being slow , and set my expectations lower , but I was pleasantly surprised by it actually. I personally didn't feel the 2 hours at all , I feel like it added more context to the game really well , I think some more backstory would have benefited the movie , but I really enjoyed it not just as a Markiplier fan but as a person regularly sees movies.

The production design was phenomenal but I think Mark taking on the mantle of actor and director was a mistake. He could have used a second hand to steady his performances and push them in better directions at points.

Are many of these issues understandable reasons why people might not have enjoyed it? Absolutely. However, my hot take that no one asked for is that a lot of the issues I’m seeing people mention aren’t actually inherent flaws within the film itself. A movie doesn’t have to adhere to the same pre-approved format that major film companies and producers have established in order for it to be a good movie. That’s the beauty of indie film making, it doesn’t need to force itself into a tidy, easily digestible, mass-produced box. Everyone is entitled to their own option of course, but I do think that perhaps a lot of the people that think it was too long or confusing or boring (etc.) are probably just not very familiar with non-Hollywood films.

I went into the movie with no context at all, but I definitely enjoyed it! I also really liked the performances from the off-screen character, the desperation towards the end was soooooo palpable.

As a Markiplier fan, I definitely agree with you. I went in wondering how the heck this hour long game could be a 2 hour movie. It felt a little too long and I feel like it focused too much on vibe and not enough on actual story

I don't think a horror movie about incomprehensible horrors should give you all the answers in a nice plate for you to eat, I hate coming out of a video game/movie with every single bit of the plot explained to me because it stops me from thinking about it and make secrets it could be hiding. I'm glad this movie was as disorienting and weird as it was because if it played into the typical bland horror movie camera movements/framing/ and shots it would've lost a big part of what made it great for me

i really liked it. i love unique concepts in sci-fi, and everything about this was like nothing I've seen before. you can also feel that he put his heart and soul in it, like you said, the one thing it isn't is phoned in. but I agree with the notes on pacing and audio mixing. i would be really intrigued to see him adapt another game, i think the talent really shows and the movie did well enough that he'd have a lot more resources to work with on a second project
