I will never be able to put into words how this movie and especially this book has changed me to the core. Remarque is an author unlike any other I have ever read throughout my entire life. I will literally read any book of him and not once was I disappointed. His stories are so raw and honest that there is no way they don't hit the deepest parts of your soul. All quiet on the western front is the kind of book that stays with you and changes your perspective on us as humans and life itself forever. I did a lot of research on Remarque and the deeper I went the more I understood that he is Paul. I have never recovered from the book nor the fact that this actually happened. He wrote Paul in a way that made me feel true and honest grief like I had lost someone important. It's been three years since I've discovered this story and I can never go back to the person I was before and in all honesty - despite all the pain it caused me - i don't wish to go back. With his ruthless way of describing things Remarque has punched a sense of gratitude inside me that made me see the beauty in the smallest things in life. And when it comes to moments where I doubt the meaning of life, I find myself reaching for his books again. Last year I got his original signature tattooed to seal the bond between me and his books and it is the one tattoo I carry that had the most meaning behind it.
