@veninfleur: Images of the Temple of Love, located in the gardens of the Petit Trianon at Versailles. Built in 1778 for Marie Antoinette, the neoclassical monument has a circular layout and is supported by elegant Corinthian columns. At its center stands a statue of Cupid, the symbol of love, placed on a pedestal. Set on a small artificial island and surrounded by carefully designed vegetation, the temple was part of the queen’s private retreat, far from the strict formality of court life. As an interesting fact, the temple was a symbolic gift from Louis XVI to Marie Antoinette. The statue of Cupid is older than the monument itself, sculpted by Edmé Bouchardon decades earlier. Despite its natural appearance, the entire garden was deliberately designed to create the illusion of a spontaneous landscape, in keeping with the fashion for romantic gardens in the 18th century. Access to the Petit Trianon was strictly limited, personally chosen by the queen. During the French Revolution, the site came to symbolize the luxury of the monarchy, yet the Temple of Love survived largely intact to this day.#PetitTrianon #TempleOfLove #MarieAntoinette #VersaillesGardens #FrenchHistory
