agree, making the first move makes you end up with men that are insecure!!!

I think it is okay to show interest, but let him lead and take the wheel. And if he doesn’t, that is the answer.

unfortunately, a lot of the time, when a relationship begins with women overextending, explaining, or leading emotionally, that pattern rarely disappears later. it just becomes the baseline

It’s biology for men to want to pursue you they make it VERY obvious that they want you otherwise they aren’t into you…I said what I said 🤷‍♀️

I’ve had men reiterate to me throughout the relationship about how I pursued them first- it felt so degrading…

Real. Every time I’ve ever made the first move with a guy, he’s always been insanely passive, and I’ve gotten stuck doing everything. Most guys will go for it if they really want you.

If he won’t make the first move, frankly, he’s not THAT interested. But if you make the move, he will probably be flattered and go along with it. And do you really want a man who’s just “going along with it”? 👀

i do think that we shouldn’t stop ourselves from expressing interest if that’s how we feel, but i also think it’s reallyyy interesting how ‘feminist’ dating practices always demands women give more as if we don’t give enough already..

You’re 100% right. They can fall in love with you and feel committed to you, but making the first move leads you to be with men that don’t naturally take initiative in the relationship OR they don’t want you

it's understandable that women want to get rid of traditional gender norms, but please remember that men have been raised with these norms and are doing nothing to challenge them. if they don't do something traditionally masculine, like making the first move or proposing, it's because they don't want to. if they say yes to your move or proposal, it's not from genuine interest, but because they won't say no to an easy win

Agree- I have always made the first move with boyfriends and while I always bag them … it has NOT worked out for me. My version of making the first move now is being energetically open and smiling at them. THATS IT.

Also us women need to realize that there is SOO much power in our silence and in observing and seeing what men do and US seeing THEIR cards and seeing whether we want to accept or decline.

Precisely. Not that I can’t, but I’m not attracted to the type of man who wouldn’t make the first move. It’s about their personality & character.

Unpopular opinion: women should make the first move but not directly. Hints can be thrown to the men because we have beeen told that women are not safe amongst men but if we get a signal, that shows you are welcoming us into your space and you don’t feel threatened by us

I don’t fully agree, as some men who have approached me were “pick up artist” or watched that content. Or they only approached me for an ego-boost and they do it all the time. So it’s actually not that special. Where as a man who may like you, but is shy or nervous to approach you, may actually be a rlly good guy after you do the initial approach

As a Black woman - I am not texting or approaching first. Ever. That lesson has been learned plenty of times already.

Yes to all of this. I want a partner who takes initiative. That’s a core value and it matters for future partnership endeavors, like you said. I now believe that women should signal and men should approach. And believing this has really altered how I live my life as a woman for the better. I’m no longer obsessing over mixed signals or stressing if I should say something because now I think “nope! I made eye contact, smiled, and am making myself available to be approached*. If he’s interested, he will approach me. And if he doesn’t, then that was never the man for me” and then I’m able to just be actually present in my body and when I interact with men, it doesn’t feel like a performance or audition to be chosen. *=I don’t mean doing anything in particular, just literally physically present in whatever space we’re in and not hiding myself :)
