That’s odd since most of the time, the locals didn’t care and I got bumped a couple of times and didn’t apologize or excused themselves. Some may seem polite but it’s obvious that they don’t like foreigners regardless of color or race even if we don’t do anything bad or against their tradition, culture.

Try to walk in busy tokyo station in peak time, people will bump you and just walk away.

British people don't cut in line and if you do, we're not pleased. if we bump into people we always say sorry, if people don't, we're not pleased! Distance? we certainly do that in general. we're not touchy feely with strangers either!

When I was in Japan the crowd used to split around me, I felt like those sharks swimming with all the fishes creating a void around them. It was nice tbh.

I traveled Japan many time and never had any problems. I am Swiss and we have a lot in common. We also are kinda distanced, maybe a bit shy, like our country clean and have good manners. Only other tourists made me roll my eyes, specifically Chinese, Indian, Russian and US tourists

currently in japan on my fourth trip, i have bad crowd claustrophobia and do my absolute most to avoid running into people or touching others at all costs, EVERY time ive been almost knocked off my feet by someone, it was a local that was running and then didnt even glance in my direction nevermind apologize 🙃
