I grew up on montpellier hill. We were so close to the shellfire club that when I was very young I used to think it was part of our back garden. I grew up with all the stories and spent a lot of time wondering the mountain at all hours. I'm generally a skeptic but I've seen so many things I just cant explain

The Story I was told as a child was that a stranger called to the club one evening on a stormy night and when they where playing cards thr stranger joined the card game when one of the players dropped a card when he meant down to pick up the card he seen that the stranger had a cloven hoof that thr Devil had came to the club ... we used to camp there as teenagers and in the land at the bottom of the hill we knew it as Massey's Estate

I actually visited it back in August. As I was walking up the path, it felt wrong to be walking up to it. Like I was intruding. But I kept going and when I saw it, it was foreboding. I didn’t go inside it. I just walked around the perimeter of it. After walking around 2 times, it felt like I was being watched. I got creeped out and left. And it was in the middle of the day.

Brilliantly told 👏👏👏. There is a painting in the National Gallery of some of the original club members. Missing are father and son Richard Chappell Whaley and Thomas ‘Buck’ Whaley. Richard’s nickname was ‘Burn-Chapel’ because of his hatred of religion and the Roman Catholic church. He would amuse himself on Sundays by riding around Dublin setting fire to the thatched roofs of poor Catholic chapels. The Whaleys were related through their ancestry to Oliver Cromwell.
