You’re right and calling it an “adaptation” does not excuse its failures. This is a fundamentally misconstructed work that contradicts the spirit of the original. The name Wuthering Heights is used not as homage, but as marketing and it misfired at that.

If it’s not an adaptation don’t call it wuthering heights. Don’t put the movie poster on new print editions of the actual book that it’s not adapted from.
