I can't believe how many adults still believe they can sell their property for a dollar to save them for Medicare. Just do a lady bird deed.

Irrevocable Trust with corporate trustee was the best decision we made for estate planning.

medicaid only looks back 5 years so it’s important to make these type of decisions well before the need of nursing home care

Those Medicaid centers are disgusting. I just told my kids just stop all care including meds and let me just go.

How is that fair that someone can move assets around to avoid paying for LTC so that taxpayers pay for it instead?

I trusted my elder lawyer 5 years ago she said I didn’t need an irrevocable trust. She could save my house. Now almost 5 years later hubby has dementia. She wants 6k to file for Medicaid. I know why she was untruthful now it’s to late. Be careful who you trust

Medicaid isn’t going to take your home, if you have assets you won’t qualify for Medicaid.

You also need a diagnosis for Medicaid to pay for the nursing home care. I just went through this with my dad, there’s so much misinformation out there about Medicaid coverage.

I ended up putting my mom's home and assets in a Legacy trust through an Elder Law Attorneys office. I did not realize the extent you have to go through to protect what my parents worked so hard for.

Or don’t wait until you need the care to transfer. Do it 7 years before you suspect it or put it in a trust

We went to an estate lawyer thinking the same thing but she changed our views. First if you have an irrevocable trust, then you have to pay rent to yourself on the home, and second if my parents end up needing some kind of extra care, then the million $ they saved can keep them comfortable in that home, with better care than some state facility. It really put it into perspective for me.

My mom’s house has been in an irrevocable trust. Her children are beneficiaries. Is that not good enough?
