@ericgoesglobal: I got scammed. And it all started on April 1. A close friend said I had to meet someone—but wouldn’t say who. Just that it was “important.” Out of trust, I went. Turned out, it was someone from a group I’d once volunteered with. He started asking weird, cryptic questions. Things like, “Is your life going smoothly?” and “Do you feel like something’s off?” I said life had its ups and downs—like anyone’s. But somehow, that led to him saying I was cursed… by someone from our old organization. At first I laughed it off. But then came the retreat. Same friend. One night she told me she had a nightmare of me crying for help. Said she was scared for me. And because I trusted her, I started to wonder… what if it’s true? I called him. He said he could “help.” But needed to meet in person. Also needed five figures—to “start the energy transfer.” I paid. What followed from April to June was a psychological rabbit hole. Every week: more “discoveries,” more fear, more money. He even said my sister was in danger. I brought her to meet him. She saw through it immediately. I didn’t. Then came the final push. He tried to stop my book launch. Told me to cancel renovations. Wanted me to fly to a “secret location” to “escape the Matrix.” That night, I was held in a conversation till 5am. I only got out because I lied and said I’d pay later. At 5am, my sister texted me out of the blue. Said she felt I was in danger. When I told her what happened, she showed me a YouTube video… and that’s when I realised: I was being scammed. I cut contact with him. And her. Months later, she realised the same. We made peace.
