@untoldstoriesofhistory: The Hello Girls of World War One were essential to the Allied victory, yet their story was almost erased. 🇺🇸📞 These bilingual women ran high-speed Army switchboards in France, handled battlefield communications under artillery fire, and saved countless lives. Officially the Signal Corps Female Telephone Operators Unit, they were sworn in, trained, wore Army uniforms, and followed military discipline—but after the war, the Army denied them veteran status. Decades of petitions, letters, and persistence finally earned them recognition in 1977, and in 2024 they received the Congressional Gold Medal. Their story is about courage, skill, and refusing to be erased. Learn about the Hello Girls, World War One female soldiers, battlefield communications, pioneering women in military history, and forgotten heroes of history. Inspired by the book Switchboard Operators by Carol Lake, the BBC drama Hello Girls, and the 2018 documentary and Broadway musical. #History #historytok #hellogirls #ww1history #womenshistory

And then the ladies did it again in WW2 building planes, vehicles, weapons and pretty much anything! Good job ladies, you deserve all of the credit any male would receive.

I remember when they were finally acknowledged. My history teacher took full advantage of it to give us the history of The Hello Girls and many other women who went to work in factories.

“Recognition did not arrive through generosity. It arrived through their persistence.” When it comes to the contributions of women, Truer words have never been spoken. Thank you for sharing this story!!

Also at the same time other women were back home fighting to get the vote . Even going to prison because they were protesting in front of the White House while the war was going on .
