@dr.free.hess: 🚨 Why I’m Speaking Up: When Marketing Misleads & Infant Safety Is at Risk Parents see “pediatrician recommended” photos and comforting marketing — but marketing does NOT equal safe. A company (ahem, looking at you Dreamland 👀) has been promoting weighted sleep sacks and showing infants in prone (belly) sleeping positions in their imagery and guidance. This is extremely concerning. Here’s what the science and expert organizations actually say: 📌 Weighted sleep sacks are NOT recommended. Major safety authorities — including the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), and every other leading infant safety organization — do NOT recommend weighted sleep products for infants. There are no safety standards for these products, no adequate evidence of benefit, and increasing concerns about harm. 📌 Prone (belly) sleeping is NOT safe for infants. Research since the Back-to-Sleep campaign shows that tummy sleeping dramatically increases the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), suffocation, rebreathing, and other sleep-related infant death. The AAP explicitly advises that all infants be placed on their backs for sleep — always. So what’s wrong with this company’s approach? ⚠️ Using images of infants on their bellies creates the false impression that this is safe while selling a product that isn’t recommended. That’s misleading — and potentially dangerous. ⚠️ Weighted sleep sacks often place pressure on an infant’s chest and torso, impair spontaneous arousal and repositioning, and have been associated with reported injuries and deaths when used for infant sleep. ⚠️ When marketing normalizes unsafe sleep positions and products not supported by evidence or expert guidelines, it undermines well-established safety messages that save lives. Parents deserve truthful, evidence-based information, not imagery and claims that create the illusion of safety. Marketing should never take precedence over infant health and science, and these companies need to be held accountable for their disregard of child safety. ⸻ #SafeSleep #InfantSafety #EvidenceBasedMedicine #AAPGuidelines #ProtectBabies 🍼⚠️

How are these still available?????? thank you for spreading the word. So many of us assume that if it's available to buy, it's safe. This is wild.

Have you seen my latest deep dive. There doctor diagnosed my 11 week old twins with autism over an email, so I could purchase dreamland with FSA as a medical device I literally didn’t believe it was actually happening until it arrived in the mail and I successfully paid with FSA

😳 In the era that the administration threw the Safe Sleep campaign out the window, it still amazes me how a FAAP doctor does that.
