Earlier that morning, we made the drive to Abomey, once the heart of the Dahomey Kingdom, where we were welcomed into a royal experience that included traditional attire, cleansing rituals, music, drumming, dancing, and meeting the Queen Mother. What stood out most is how present the history feels — not just in museums, but in the symbols, the ceremonies, and the way stories are carried through community. And then… Zangbeto. A tradition rooted in protection and spirituality, witnessed publicly through movement, performance, and mystery — with so much meaning behind what you’re allowed to see.
