They smell from softener buildup . I always use white vinegar and baking soda . Vinegar replaces the softener . Soda with detergent and always use powder detergent and hot water .

I just add distilled vinegar and I’m an athlete. I grew up my whole life sweating in my clothes and everything and just still vinegar with the wash.
